Young Lions make a point

Guiseley AFC’s Youth Academy kicked their season off at Nethermoor with a point against a well-drilled Boston United team.

The young Lions started well with Luke Porrit and left back Elliot Scott, who captained the side, threatening down the left flank.
It wasn’t long before it paid off, the speed of  interplay between Porrit and striker Redmond Lee catching the Boston defence off guard to put the home side 1-0 up.
The home defence were also dealing well with a big and powerful centre forward pairing and again the Lions’ forward line posed problems. Porrit  ran the ball half the length of the pitch before slotting it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw Boston come back into and it wasn’t long before they pulled one back and the Pilgrims then levelled with a fierce shot over keeper Tom Stewart. Some stoic defending ensured the game ended in a draw that lays the foundations for what will with luck be a good season ahead.
Next up is another home tie against Hallam FC in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, 7.45 pm kick off.
