In this table topping clash played at Ben Rhydding Sports Club Guiseley created few chances in a tough battle in which the conditions prevented the footballing spectacle that was expected writes Rachel O’Connor.
Guiseley started without the injured Jakub Hebda and Josh Stones, having been used as a first team substitute the previous night, sat on the bench.
League leaders Moors took on second placed Guiseley with all to play for and the opening half was mainly a midfield battle on a bobbly pitch with very few chances for either side.
The deadlock was broken right on the cusp of half-time when Guiseley’s debutant ‘keeper Lloyd James Horridge failed to deal with the ball in a derensive mix up and Tyler Bruce ran on to score.
Stones was brought into the fray at the start of the second-half just as the rain started pouring down. He replaced Alex Mather but had little real service.
Solihull continued to make the best of the chances and they forged ahead at 2-0 when Leo Wood broke away on 50 minutes to fire past the ‘keeper.
Guiseley replaced Harrison Leigh and Haroon Salah with Jayden John and Sam Appleyard in the 56th minute but the Young Lions never hit their best form in this game.
Guiseley were unable to produce much in the way of strikes on goal while Solihull got another chance to score when they were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute but it was hit wide of the goal.
