Young Lions In Seventh Heaven

A George Sebine hat-trick in the first 35 minutes ensured that Guiseley Academy U-18s took a grip on their FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round tie at Yorkshire Amateur FC on Friday evening before going on to comprehensively win the game 7-0, writes Rachel O’Connor.

Facing a physically big and strong outfit the Guiseley lads stuck to their task impressively with an outstanding display of pace, skill and a desire to win which saw their opponents wilt under the onslaught. An onslaught led by the pace and strength of striker George Sebine, who not only netted three goals but could be seen getting challenges in all over the pitch.

His first goal came on three minutes when he blasted the ball high into the roof of the net following a cross from the right.

This goal appeared to inspire his teammates and they almost went 2-0 up when Freddie Westfall picked up Zac Rushworth’s free-kick but hit the post.

On 15 minutes Sebine was on hand to head home his second goal with his strength and Rushworth’s pace troubling the Ammers’ defence. This pair combined to force a corner but it came to nought and then Sebine put a good cross in across the face of the goal but there was no taker. Rushworth had a good effort and then Sebine was shown a yellow card after colliding with the ‘keeper as he challenged for the ball.

A foul on birthday boy Marley Spence brought the gift of a penalty which Sebine converted with aplomb in the 35th minute, The battle was becoming a little physical but the Guiseley lads rose to the challenge with bags of effort being applied by each and every player.

The Ammers’ ‘keeper produced a good save from a thunderous shot from Rushworth in the 38th minute before Guiseley ‘keeper Harry Churnin-Ritchie, by and large a spectator in this game, made a good take from a long range free-kick.

Guiseley took their score to 4-0 when Lucas Alexander got on the end of a cross from Jack Lorriman.

Guiseley were well and truly in the ascendency as they made it 5-0 just before the break when Guiseley stole the ball as two Ammers’ defenders got in a mix up and Rushworth netted a well-deserved goal.

The home side had one chance before the break but Churnin-Ritchie took the ball well to preserve the clean sheet. Skipper Westfall was booked for kicking the ball away, a fate which had befallen Rushworth earlier in the half.

Guiseley were out early for the second-half raring to go in their pursuit of a place in the First Round Qualifying and they quickly showed that they were not going to rest on their laurels even with a five goal advantage.

Just one minute into the half Jack Lorriman made it 6-0 but Ammers showed they were not going to lie down when they had a good move that was ended by a tremendous tackle from right-back Yasin Hayes.

Guiseley then started making their raft of substitutions as Robbie Murray and Mackenzie Aylward replaced the injured Rushworth and Sebine in the 54th minute. Five minutes later Westfall was replaced by Liam Matson and the tempo of the game started to slow down.

Two further substitutions were made with Spence and Lorriman being replaced by Nathaniel Dyer and Mason Donaldson on 69 minutes and Ammers started to come more into the game but Guiseley were determined to keep a clean sheet. Max Dickinson picked up a booking as Guiseley continued to chase and harry.

Guiseley completed the scoring with a second Alexander goal direct from a free-kick in time added on. All in all a very good performance from a Guiseley side who will now entertain either Golcar or Brighouse in the next round in the week commencing 16th September.

Guiseley’s Head of Academy Dave Currie said after the game: “I thought that the lads did excellently in what was a tricky fixture against an organised side. I have been missing due to knee surgery so it was great to be among the players and staff again. In my absence the lads were well prepared by the coaching team of Harry Garman, Dave Heaney and Karl Parkin. Well done to both players and staff as we move on to the next round in two weeks time.”
