Young Lions In Seventh Heaven With Oldham Rout

With four enforced changes from their last game Guiseley Academy put on an excellent performance to demolish Oldham Athletic 7-2 on Wednesday, writes Rachel O’Connor.

In this National League U-19 Alliance League North game, played at West Riding County FA, Guiseley lacked centre-back pairing Joe Taylor and Freddie Westfall, their two leading scorers George Sebine and Lucas Alexander as well as Lawrence Ford, Emre Can and Robbie Murray.

To their credit the young, re-shuffled Guiseley side shrugged all of this off to produce an excellent win and grab their third seven goal haul of the season.

The previous two were in the FA Youth Cup with a 7-0 win over Yorkshire Amateur and a 7-1 win over Brighouse Town.

In this, their fifth league win of the season, Jack Lorriman netted a brace to take his tally for the season to 11 and he is now the only player to have played in every game.

Other goals were scored by Derren Boyle and Zac Rushworth with Oli Storr, Zante Rose-Campbell and substitute Nathaniel Dyer all netting for the first time this season.

A tremendous win for The Young Lions which leaves them in seventh place in the table with games in hand over some of the teams above them.

It took their goal difference for the season, including cup games, to plus 22 having scored 58 goals and conceded 36.

Guiseley: Spencer Booth; Yasin Hayes, Max Dickinson, Liam Matson, Dan Fotherby; Jack Lorriman, Marley Spence, Oli Storr, Zante Rose-Campbell; Oli Storr, Zac Rushworth. Subs: Nathaniel Dyer (Rushworth 65), Mackenzie Aylward (Boyle 78), Zac Richards (Storr 78), Ronnie Skelton.
