Having gone 3-1 up and with the home side posing not much of a threat Guiseley looked on course to register their first league win since New Years Day but in this unpredictable season they conceded a penalty and then let FC United grab an equaliser to leave the Lions hanging on for a share of the spoils.
With Andy Halls suspended club captain Scott Garner made a welcome return to the heart of the defence following a lengthy period out through injury.
The home side had the best of the opening exchanges but it was the visitors who took the lead on 10 minutes as Niall Heaton headed home a corner from the left.
Will Hatfield was next to try his luck but his shot went just the wrong side of the upright.
The Rebels pulled level on 28 minutes courtesy of a sublime free kick over the wall from Kurt Willoughby giving Marcus Dewhurst no chance.
Rowan Liburd restored the Lions’ advantage five minutes later when he wrestled with Christopher Lynch to win the ball and leave William Sass-Davies trailing in his wake before drawing Andrew Fisher and slotting into the bottom corner.
Will Hatfield doubled the visitor’s lead on 66 minutes with a smart finish past Fisher and at that stage the home side had offered very little in terms of attacking prowess. That all changed ten minutes later when United were awarded what looked a soft penalty which Willoughby slotted home from the spot for his second of the game.
The goal injected some hope into the home side and they launched an all-out assault to put the Lions on the back foot and sure enough a mix up between Scott Smith and Cliff Moyo let in Thomas Peers for the equaliser.
Desperate defending then kept United at bay and substitute Alex Purver’s goal bound effort was headed away by Lynch.
Despite the opportunity to open up an eight-point gap between the Lions and the bottom three being thrown away other results went their way so the situation at the foot of the table remains the same with Guiseley six points ahead of third from bottom Ashton United who have a game in hand.
