Guiseley Vixens returned to the top of the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division One after a comfortable 2-0 victory against third-placed Chorley Ladies.
Two great strikes from Liv Thackray and Sarah Danby sealed all three points.
The first goal came early in the game when Thackray received the ball on the edge of the box after Natalie Brace won the ball back on the six-yard box. She laid the ball back and Thackray bent her effort into the top corner.
Just before the half hour mark the Vixens doubled their lead. Brace once again got an assist laying the ball back for Danby, who cut across the ball directing it into the net.
The best chance of the second-half came on the hour mark with Thackray again trying to bag another goal, twisting and turning to get around her marker but her shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
The rest of the game was a controlled one, not allowing Chorley a chance on goal.
Beth Seasman caused some worry late on in the game when she closed down Scarlett Smith before the two collided leaving the ‘keeper down for a length of time.
Manager Glen Preston said: “We’ve put in a dominant performance and we’ve created quite a lot of good chances. On the flip side we’ve not conceded any real chances.”
Joint Manager Kyle O’Reilly added: “We’re working hard for each other, maybe the break has helped us, and helped us recharge our batteries and since we’ve been back, the football we are playing is fantastic, the way we are defending is hard and its fantastic.”
The Vixens are back on top of the table and they travel to Crewe Ladies next Sunday.
