After a postponed game last week Guiseley Vixens finally make their return to league action at Nethermoor Park against bottom of the league Mossley Hill.
The Vixens are the only unbeaten team in the league going in to this game winning six out of seven and sit top of the Women’s Premier League Division One.
In stark contrast their opponents are yet to win a game all season, sitting bottom with no points. Mossley Hill have never beaten Guiseley, with the last game ending 3-2 to the Vixens.
I spoke to joint managers Kyle O’Reilly and Glen Preston to get their thoughts on the upcoming fixture and what they are expecting from the game.
“We are confident as ever going into the game after drawing with Huddersfield, who are in the league above, in the cup a few weeks back. We are raring to go and want to keep putting points on the board,” O’Reilly explained.
He continued: “We’ve had two low-pressure games in the two cup competitions and we conducted ourselves really well in both of those games so we, as managers, are wanting more of the same this Sunday.”
The week break has given the squad time to recuperate with only Keegan Lambert, Katie Welham and Emily Scott out with long term injuries. Lauren Griffiths is away however.
“The squad is ready as always and I think the break has been welcomed after a few tough weeks in which we picked up a few niggling injuries. Aside from the major injuries the girls are refreshed and raring to go,” O’Reilly said.
This will be the first time O’Reilly and Preston have come up against Mossley Hill whilst being in charge of the Vixens.
“I don’t know a great deal about them to be honest as they seem like a new group this season, which makes preparing a little tougher. As we say for every game, if the girls stick to the task then we’re confident we can get the job done and get all three points,” O’Reilly said.
Preston commented on how the team approaches games when they are still unbeaten.
“For me it’s much better going into games when we are the favourites. I love it and we as a team want this kind of pressure on us. We approach each game expecting to win it and that’s much more fun than being at the bottom of the table in a relegation battle,” he said.
Kick-off is 2pm at Nethermoor Park and entry is £3, £1 Concessions and free to Guiseley season ticket holders.
