Vixens Travel to Blackburn

Guiseley Vixens travel to last year’s champions Blackburn Rovers Ladies in the search for their first league win of the campaign.

Assistant manager Ashley Thompson gave his thoughts ahead of the trip.

You face Blackburn this week. They had a very impressive campaign last season winning the league by 11 points and managed to not lose a single game. They’ve kept the same form this season winning all three of their games. How big of a task will this game be?

“Away to the holders is probably the toughest game of the season on paper but we all know the results aren’t based on form. We’ve had a good week of training this week and everyone in the squad believes we can get a positive result.

“Last week we dominated the game but it was a familiar tale of not getting what we deserve. On Sunday, again, we are trying to put that right.”

You’ve been given a huge boost with Nikki Berko returning to the side from injury and she bagged herself two goals in 30 minutes from off the bench last week. How big could this be for your season?

“Nikki is a natural goal-scorer and what we’ve been desperately lacking so far this season. That was proved last week with two goals in quick succession, also hitting the post.

“We’ve been creating chances but missing that lethal cutting edge. It gives the whole team confidence knowing that a player like Nikki is leading the line. Get the ball to her and we’ve got a great chance of winning any game and hopefully, that will happen this weekend.”

The game will take place at the Accrington & Rossendale College, BB5 2AW with a kick-off of 2PM. Follow along on Twitter for match updates.
