Vixens take on Chester-le-Street

Guiseley Vixens look to close in on the FA Women’s Premier League Division One title this weekend as they travel to Chester-le-Street.

The Vixens need just four more points to settle the league, something which has never looked in doubt throughout the course of the season.

The two sides met just last Sunday when the Vixens won 1-0, the only goal of the game coming through a Liv Thackray effort after a good ball through from Danica Roberts.

Joint manager Kyle O’Reilly said: “It’s always important to put the previous game behind you and focus on the next task at hand. Regardless of winning or losing as a squad we don’t dwell or dramatise the negatives. We quickly move on and I think that’s essential for any successful outfit.

“It’s a huge game this Sunday and the three points would put us in a strong position of 49 points which no other club can surpass this season.

“That being said, we have to put the points on the board. Chester-Le-Street will obviously be looking to prevent us doing that and last week they proved to be one of our toughest games of the season both physically and in terms of playing football too, so just like last week it’ll make a great game for the spectators.”

The Vixens are boosted with key players returning to the squad.

O’Reilly said: “We’ve a couple of niggles, as you’d expect after two games in quick succession, but nothing severe really. So we’ll assess them nearer the time, it might be a case of monitoring game time for those struggling, but we’ll know nearer the time.

“That being said we’re boosted by the return of a few players including Sarah Danby, Ellie Hall, Hannah HaleEmily Scott and Beth Seasman, who are all back and available for selection, meaning we have good options for the weekend.

He finished by saying: “We’re familiar with them after playing only last week but they’re familiar with us too. I see it being a close affair again, we’ll have to dig deep to get the spoils but we have the carrot dangling in front of us in the shape of the league title.”
