The Vixens welcome Tranmere Rovers Ladies to Woodhouse Grove School this Sunday and look to play their first back to back games of the year.
Tranmere come into the game winning only one game in the league this season, a 4-1 win at home to Crewe Alexandra.
They have gone eight games without picking up any points and sit at the foot of the Women’s Premier League Division One.
There will be one or two forced changed this week as Maria Sangra took a knock last week and hasn’t trained since. Emily Scott and Debs Hastings will be back in contention as well as one or two development squad players.
Last Time Out
Last time out at Tranmere, Guiseley ran out 4-1 winners with Natalie Brace scoring and Sarah Danby getting a hat-trick.
Managers Thoughts
Glen Preston said: “We are confident we can get the win but last time we played Tranmere it was a tough game. Sometimes when you play sides who are down near the bottom there can be an expectation that the game might be easier and that definitely wasn’t the case for us. They set up to defend and frustrated us for large periods and it took a very strong professional performance from us to ensure we won the game 4-1 that day.
“I’m sure it will be no different this time round especially as Tranmere are going to be wanting to take points off the top teams but in the form we are in, we are very confident we can take all threepoints if we play to our potential.
“Our form of late is that of a side that’s constantly improving which is reflected not only in our results but in the stats we collate each week. When we played Blackpool for example we enjoyed 80 per cent possession hitting over 500 passes for the second time this year and we’ve been creating more chances per game on average.
“All of this to me suggests we might be peaking at the right stage of the season but we want the team to continue going from strength to strength as we are not infallible, we can’t allow ourselves to get complacent just because things have been going well.”
“The league this year is stronger than it’s ever been there is no doubt about that. I’ve seen more and more Premier League standard players drop into this division, a vast improvement in coaching, teams are better than ever at protecting key zones, blocking off the middle and transitioning faster which makes it much tougher to win games.”
He finished by saying: “Teams at the top have all beaten Premier League sides this year which historically has never happened before, all of which shows the quality there is at this level. Anybody can beat anybody on their day and it’s what makes it a great league this year.”
The game will take place at Woodhouse Grove School and kick-off is at 2:30pm.
