The Women’s County Cup got under way on Sunday when Guiseley Vixens entertained AFC Gledhow who compete in the West Riding League.

Despite the best efforts and hard work put in by the AFC Gledhow players the difference in leagues was clear from the start of the game as Guiseley raced into a 4-0 lead within the opening 10 minutes.

Guiseley goals continued to accumulate at regular intervals throughout and half-time arrived with Guiseley leading 9-0.

To their credit the AFC Gledhow players never showed any signs of becoming disheartened and continued to compete all the way through the game.

Guiseley continued to score goals in the second half and 10 minutes before the end AFC Gledhow scored the goal that their efforts richly deserved to leave the final score at 15-1 to Guiseley.

Notable achievements for Guiseley in this game included striker Becky Kendell scoring 7 goals, Jodie Whitford-Stark scoring her first goal for Guiseley and half-time substitute scoring twice on her first team debut. There were also first team debuts for Nicola Frankland & Jess Gittings.

Othe Guiseley goals came from Tanya Rich (2), Aimi Beresford (2) and Michelle Walsh

We wish AFC Gledhow every success in their league campaign and look forward to a stern test in the next round of the Women’s County Cup on 16th November when we entertain Bradford City who compete in the league above our own.

On Sunday 26 October Guiseley entertain Chorley looking to avenge a defeat in the away fixture earlier this season (KO 14.00).

Team: D Maslin, L Hunt (N Frankland), E Speer, K Welham, E Maguire, S Hobson, M Walsh (J Gittings), J Whitford-Stark (L Elford) , A Beresford, B Kendell, T Rich.
