Vixens Make the Trip to Stoke

The Vixens start their battle against relegation this Sunday in their first league game of 2018 away at Stoke City Ladies.

Last time the two sides met was in September at Nethermoor Park. Guiseley bagged a late equaliser to draw 3-3 and earn themselves a point.

Stoke have only lost twice at home in the league this season with defeats coming at the hands of Derby County and Leicester City.

We spoke to captain Alarna Fuller to see how the squad is ahead of the fixture.

Alarna, this weekend you travel to Stoke who have only lost twice at home in the league this season. How big of a task do you see it being to get something there?

“We know that Stoke are a good team so whether home or away, we see it as a task but we believe in ourselves and know we can go there and bring back some points if we play the best we can.”

Last time out was a closely contested 3-3 draw and it was the first point of the season. Do you see yourselves getting your first league win this weekend?

“We don’t play any team and think we aren’t good enough to win so I absolutely believe we can go there and get three points.

“We’ve been playing really good football, enough to bring back points and we haven’t been, so now it’s time to stop saying ‘oh we played really well but unfortunately didn’t win’…and that starts this weekend.”

You’ve added a few new players to the side and some are back from injury/suspension since the last league game. Can you describe the mood in the camp going into this part of the season?

“The camps great! We are a close-knit team and all get on brilliantly. The new players have fit in fantastic and they bring some real quality to the team. Everybody has come back looking sharp and all rearing to go into 2018, proving that we don’t belong where we are in the table and I think this weekend we will show that.”
