Vixens dismantle Leeds Ladies

Guiseley Vixens extend their unbeaten league record to nine games with the 5-1 dismantling of Leeds Ladies.

A much stronger second-half from the Vixens saw Alarna Fuller, Liv DaCosta and Sarah Danby all score to put the game to bed.

Elizabeth White and Olivia Thackray also scored with the pick of the bunch being Thackray’s long range drive from outside the box, which dipped under the crossbar.

There was a debut for ‘keeper Emma Taylor, who made a five-minute cameo appearance at the end of the game.

The scoring was opened early in the game when White scored in the fifth minute. Charlie Blythe ran down the wing before crossing into the box. White headed the ball back across goal to give her her third goal in four games in her debut season for the club.

Leeds pulled one back in the eighth minute after a controversial penalty was given when the referee deemed Ellie Hall to have handled inside the box. Simona Petkova put the kick past ‘keeper Beth Seasman.

On the stroke of half-time Thackray put the Vixens back in front when her long range effort sneaked under the barThe Vixens went into the break 2-1 up.

The Vixens started the second-half much brighter, playing a more a fluid passing game and it took them only five minutes to add their third goal.

Fuller found herself on the end of Chantelle O’Haras corner and headed it into the top corner.

Leeds were unable to break the Vixens’ defence down in the second-half and were disheartened even more in the 78th minute when DaCosta got on the end of Danby’s corner to make it 4-1.

A second goal in as many minutes put the game to bed. Blyth ran down the wing before playing the ball into Danby’s path and she took a touch before slotting it home to wrap up all three points for the Vixens.

Joint manager Glen Preston said: “I am delighted with the 5-1 win and I think we have produced a really good second-half performance. In the first-half we weren’t at our best and I felt that Leeds forced us into committing mistakes.

“The penalty decision was incredibly harsh to make it 1-1 and I think that was a gift from the referee. It unnerved us but from half-time onwards we were in full control.”

He added:”It’s nice to silence their fans as they can be the twelfth man for their team but in the second-half they almost weren’t there. We had complete control in the second-half and we looked like we were going to score from every attack. Overall it was a top class performance from us.”
