Striker Jake Young bagged six goals as the academy powered through to an away the with Blackpool in the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a 13-0 win over Ossett United at Nethermoor.
The Young Lions may have been hit by injuries which depleted their squad but they were far too good for a gallant Ossett side and we opened the scoring in the early minutes when Lewis Collett slid the ball across the ‘keeper into the net.
Young should have made more of two early chances, firing straight at the ‘keeper and putting a chance wide, and then had a good effort ruled out for off-side before opening his account on 23 minutes with a cool finish.
He then converted a brilliant cross from Adam Haw for 3-0 before a well-worked move playing out from the back ended with Charlie Heath making it 4-0.
A lovely turn by Young saw him go through on goal and despite a valiant effort by Ossett ‘keeper Jamie White he blasted home for 5-0.
Young then bagged his fourth just before the break for Guiseley to go in 6-0 up at half-time.
Guiseley increased the score to 7-0 early in the second-half when Adam Haw climbed the highest to head home.
A double substitution was made by The Lions with Mustapha Coker and Akram Aliyu replacing Collett and Heath on the hour.
They each went on to net a brace, Coker adding the eighth and ninth and Aliyu finishing off a mazy run by Young for 10-0 and heading the final goal in the third minute of added time.
Inbetween Young took his tally to six with a header following a great team move and then lobbing the ‘keeper as he came out of goal to challenge.
Dave Currie’s young charges now travel to Blackpool, a side very successful in this competition over the last couple of seasons, in the week commencing October 29th.
