Despite being held to a 1-1 draw by fellow title contenders South Shields Guiseley’s Under 19’s clinched the National League’s Under 19s Division ‘J’ title for the first time in the clubs history at Ilkley Town this afternoon before a crowd of well in excess of one hundred.
Coached by Dave Currie and Danny Ellis the Under 19’s went into the contest knowing that a draw would suffice as even though both teams had the same number of points the young Lions had the advantage of a better goal difference.
Having opened the scoring midway through the first half, they were unable to force a decisive second and when Shields grabbed a second half equaliser it set up a tense finale before the final whistle blew to confirm that the Lions had held off the challenge from their North East rivals and clinched the league title as a result.
