Guiseley AFC Academy’s Under 16’s team went one better than the Under-19’s and won their National final, the Junior Premier League National Elite Play-Off final.
After winning the regional league and cup Guiseley Under 16’s Centre of Excellence team defeated Rushall Olympic 2-1 in the final played at Hyde on Saturday.
The unbeaten Guiseley side, coached by Brian Blackwell, came from a goal down to triumph with strikes from Ben Darkins and Nathan Newall.
Man-of-the-Match was Guiseley’s Nick Brayshaw.
Head of Guiseley Academy Dave Currie said: “The Junior Premier League is seen as the bridge between Junior Sunday League and Pro Academies so to win this is an excellent achievement and shows that the standard of player joining the Centre of Excellence and Academy is ever improving.
“The players have made huge improvements and bought into what Guiseley AFC are trying to achieve in their Youth Programme. Their win is a huge credit to their coach Brian Blackwell, who has coached some of these lads since they were Guiseley Juniors players.”
