Local Trophy tie awaits

Guiseley face FC Halifax Town in the First Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Supporters will need no reminding of last season’s battles with the Shaymen in which they gained promotion and won the West Riding County Cup at the Lions expense although there have however, been several changes at both clubs in the intervening period.

Josh Wilson and Kevin Holsgrove left Nethermoor to join the the Shaymen in the summer and former Guiseley skipper Simon Ainge also signed for them. Recently joining the Lions from Halifax is striker Alex Johnson who is now managed by another former Shayman, Mark Bower.

Halifax have made a good start to life in the Conference and occupy 11th place with 31 points from 21 games and are unbeaten at home so far this season. However, Guiseley will no doubt be looking to be the first to dent that record, coming into the game unbeaten in eight matches.

Johnson, who has been in fine form recently, is keen to add to his goal tally and is excited by the contest.

“I’m going to keep working hard and try to improve my goal ratio,” he told Francis Grainger.

“I’d have to keep any celebration toned down if I did score there because a lot of my friends are there and they were all very good to me. I was out for a run when the draw was made and I didn’t find out until all my mates messaged me about it so I can’t wait for it to be honest.”

Travel details for the game are available on the away games section of the website. Admission prices for the match are as follows – Adults: £13, Concessions £10, U16’s £5 and U12’s £1.

As well as the clubs’ respective first teams facing off, their Youth Academies will also meet in the league earlier on Saturday, with the game kicking off at 10.45am at Brighouse Town.

If there is a winner on Saturday, we will face Selby Town in the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday as planned. Admission will be reduced to £5 for adults and £3 concessions.
