Trinity Tame Lions On Easter Monday

Two first half goals from Gainsborough Trinity were enough to condemn Guiseley to defeat on a wet Bank Holiday Monday at Nethermoor, writes Joe Priestley.

The game got off to the worst possible start for the Lions when Declan Howe converted a penalty after just seventeen minutes, having been brought down in the box by Sam Bentley.

The misery was compounded just six minutes later when Lewis Butroid doubled the visitors’ advantage after another well worked move following a spell of Trinity pressure.

Guiseley did start to make their own moves before the halftime whistle, Jack Emmett came the closest from a corner but he was unable to hit the target with his shot and Gainsborough ensured that their clean sheet stayed intact going into the break.

Despite not scoring, Trinity were arguably the better team in a slow second half. Both teams had chances from corners but neither was able to find the net as Gainsborough managed the game well.

There were shouts for a Guiseley penalty in the seventieth minute but they were waved away almost instantly by the referee as the half petered out to its conclusion.

Ultimately it wasn’t to be for Guiseley against a hardworking Gainsborough side. However, there is little time for the Lions to lick their wounds as a trip to Manchester is on the horizon in less than a week to close out the regular season.
