Title run-in down to the wire?

With just three games to go, the Lions can finish no lower than second and are hard on the heels of long-time leaders Hyde. The gap between the teams means that Guiseley have to win their three remaining games while relying on the Tigers’ dropping two points, effectively three owing to their vastly-superior goal difference.

The punishing two games a week period ends with Wednesday’s West Riding County Cup Final at Valley Parade, and from then on the schedule reverts to Saturday games for the next three weeks.

This Saturday Guiseley travel to Stalybridge Celtic, who lie one below the Play-Off places in sixth position and will be looking for revenge as the Lions have already beaten them twice this season, including a win in the FA Cup at Bower Fold. Hyde, meanwhile, travel to relegated Blyth Spartans, who ran the Lions close back in early December.

Saturday the 21st sees Bishop’s Stortford make the long trip north to West Yorkshire. They inflicted the Lions’ worst defeat of the season in the New Year and occupy 13th place in the table, but they are only four points away from the relegation places. Hyde host Boston United on the same day, with the Pilgrims having had an average season by their own standards.

Interestingly, though, United could have a big say in the destination of this season’s title as they host the Lions the following Saturday April 28th  – the last day of the League campaign – while the Tigers travel to Histon, who are scrapping for their lives at the foot of the table and currently languish in the last relegation spot.

So, all-in-all it promises to be an absorbing final three weeks of the season.
