The Vanarama First Four – Lions Roar As Guiseley Get Going!

League sponsors Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far – and what’s to come!

Up to now…

As improvements go, it’s looking peachy in West Yorkshire. Last season’s struggles are a distant memory as the Lions charge to the opposite end of the National League North table. After three convincing wins, they’re the division’s top scorers and look a different team.

The managers are saying…

Not getting carried away is the message coming from the gaffers. Russ O’Neill said, “every game is difficult, and every game has different strategies you’ve got to overcome.” They’re living by the old cliché of taking it one game at a time.

Biggest result so far…

It’s always nice to get one over your rivals and a 5-0 rout in Bradford (Park Avenue)’s back garden was the perfect tonic.

Top performer…

Look no further than the man of the moment Aaron Martin. After scoring the winner on the opening day he obviously got a taste for it and has netted another five since then – including a superb hat-trick against the Avenue.

Stat attack…

League position: 2nd

Home goals for: 6

Away goals for: 5

Home goals against: 1

Away goals against: 3

Top scorer: Aaron Martin (6)

The view from the terraces…

Unsurprisingly, it’s been all positives. Cayden (@cayden_sands) summed it up perfectly with just two words, “absolutely awesome.”

Bill (@TaitBill) doesn’t want it to end! “Brilliant start to the season, positive tactics and a team full of energy. Long may it last,” he wrote on Twitter.

Coming up…

A few months ago, Guiseley might have been dreading a trip to Lincolnshire to face Boston United, but they head there on Saturday full of beans. Boston haven’t been the most prolific in their opening three games, but they’ve looked solid defensively.

Star man…

How pleased will the Pilgrims’ fans be to see Jake Wright leading their front line again this season? The formidable frontman has yet to hit top speed but when he does, beware.

We’ve met before…

The past three meetings have all been at York Street with Boston taking the spoils in every game. – including a 5-1 mauling back in 2015. The lay of land is a bit different this time out, will the result change?

League sponsors Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Mototama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
