Two wins last week took Guiseley Academy through to the semi-final of the Conference Youth Alliance and back to the top of the league.

The Young Lions saw off FC United of Manchester to maintain their Cup ambitions before beating Manchester Met University  in the Football Conference Youth Alliance.

“We are not getting carried away as we have achieved nothing yet,” said Head Coach Dave Currie.

“However we have put ourselves in a position where we are in charge of our own destiny. To finish above Gateshead FC in the league is a huge ask, as is the task of beating Kiddiminster Harriers in the semi-final of the Youth Alliance Cup but these challenges are by no means impossible.

“If the players continue to demonstrate the qualities they have shown up until I am sure a few of them can follow the likes of Ben Whitfield or Jacob Brown into the professional game or progress into the first team set-up at Guiseley AFC.”

Despite it being half-term this week the Academy team won’t be taking a break and have a busy few days ahead. On Wednesday afternoon they travel through to Manchester to face Macclesfield Town in a vital League fixture.

Then on Thursday the Academy have been invited to Sunderland’s Academy of Light to play against a team of players who are signed to the football agency catalyst4soccer.

The catalyst team will play a couple of other professional clubs this week but Guiseley are the only non-league opposition to be invited to the Premier League club’s training complex.
