With Guiseley and Boston United level on points at the start of play there was everything to play for in this top-six clash at Nethermoor and it was the hosts who came out on top with goals from Wayne Brooksby and Adam Boyes avenging their recent 5-1 defeat at Boston.
Both sides were quick out of the blocks but it was the Lions who were first to threaten when Adam Boyes shot over and then had another effort blocked.
Mark Jones whipped in a shot that Steven Drench did well to tip over the bar at the other end before the home side finally got some reward for their persistence midway through the half when Liam Dickinson successfully challenged Piergianni and slipped the ball to Danny Boshell.
The player-assistant manager then set up Brooksby for a well-taken opener.
Danny Hall looped a shot over for Guiseley and the lively Dayle Southwell skimmed the bar for Boston and the Pilgrims were denied an equaliser when Drench palmed away Southwell’s shot after he had caught Gavin Rothery in possession.
Boyes then put the game beyond the visitors on 59 minutes when Sam Vince, under pressure from Dickinson, missed Ryan Toulson’s cross, leaving the Lions’ leading scorer to fire home.
Substitute Alex Johnson should have put the icing on the cake for the Lions at the death when he was tripped by the keeper in the area, only to see Vince make amends by saving his spot kick.
