Stephen Harney – 1951 – 2024

It is with great sadness to hear the passing of our former right back Stephen Harney on 6th May aged 73.

Stephen played for Bradford City until 1971 before joining us at Nethermoor where he remained for 13 years until 1984.

Harney was a valued member of the team which had a run of success in the late 70s and early 80s winning the West Riding County Cup in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1983.

During that period the Lions also went on to win the Yorkshire League Cup in the 1979/80 campaign beating Emley 1-0 at Harney’s former home, Valley Parade.

Stephen, who was one of the many loveable characters playing at the time would continue to play for the Lions until 1984. He later went on to manage Rawdon Old Boys.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Kay and Stephen’s family and friends at this sad time.

The funeral will be held at Shay Grange Crematorium (BD9 6ST) on Wednesday 29th May at 11:15am, this will be followed by a wake which will be held at Northcliffe Golf Club (BD18 4LJ).
