Spoils shared at Rivacre Park

Chris Senior’s sweet left-foot volley helped rescue a point for Guiseley in a 1-1 draw against Vauxhall Motors at Rivacre Park last night.

The Lions suffered a similar fate to Saturday, coming out of the blocks slowly and not putting their stamp on to the game in the early stages.  Vauxhall sensed their opportunity and looked dangerous going forward in the opening exchanges.

The visitors huffed and puffed in the first half and never really knocked the ball around, and when Vauxhall’s Liam Wynn headed into the bottom corner in the 26th minute it was no more than the home side deserved.

The goal seemed to spring Guiseley back into life, with Ciaran Toner and Danny Boshell beginning to boss the midfield as the Lions pressed for the equaliser.

Going in 1-0 down saw Steve Kittrick given some work to do, and the Lions’ boss got the reaction he needed as Guiseley stepped up the pace and began to take a stranglehold on the match as the Ellesmere Port side sat deep.

The equaliser came in the 57th minute, a half-hearted clearance falling perfectly for Senior, who lashed an exquisite left-foot volley across goal and into the bottom corner.

Guiseley could have gone on to win the game soon after as Motors’ Mattie Burke was controversially sent off for a foul on Jamie Clarke.

The visitors nearly stole all three points at the end when Simon Baldry rose high at the back post to a Dave Merris cross and planted a header firmly on to the crossbar, while Vauxhall’s Josh Wilson wasted a golden opportunity for the hosts.
