Seasiders Sweep Lions Aside

An Adam Boyes double made the difference as Marske claimed all 3 points on a dour night at Nethermoor Park, where highlights were few and far between, writes Joe Priestley.

Things started poorly when a mistake at the back gave Adam Boyes a clear sight of goal to hit home from close range, giving the visitors the lead before the fifth minute, and the Lions found themselves struggling to create chances as Marske’s defense held firm.

However, it looked as if things were going to change on 38 minutes. Nat Crofts was brought down in the box by Ryan Catterick having latched onto a curved pass from Jake Cassidy, however the Marske keeper made up for giving away a penalty by comfortably saving Cassidy’s effort from the spot.

The Lions started the second half brighter, it was barely two minutes in before a mazy Nat Crofts run had troubled the Marske defence, however his shot from range just fell the wrong side of the post.

A chance also fell to debutant Mohammad Qasim who’s phenomenal run deserved a goal, but he could only find the woodwork from a difficult angle.

The Lions continued to press further, forcing Marske’s Ryan Catterick into a fantastic double save from a corner, but Guiseley’s press had left them vulnerable and they let Josh MacDonald in for Marske who doubled the advantage for the visitors on the counter attack.

It looked as if the game may take a turn when James Cadman pulled one back for Guiseley on the cusp of added time, capitalising on a well delivered corner to nod home, however Marske hit back almost instantly through a mix of poor defending and the endeavour of former Lion Adam Boyes’ who’s double ensured a secure three points for Marske on a lacklustre night at Nethermoor Park.
