Guiseley picked up their first preseason win since 2024 with a controlled, purposeful 2–0 victory at Tadcaster Albion, writes Colin Robertson.
In bright and warm conditions the Lions looked strong in a keenly contested first‑half, but had to withstand second half pressure before overcoming the home side.
Guiseley scored early, with Jay Rollins setting the tone on 16 minutes, when the new signing arrived decisively to meet Lucas Odunston’s driven cross and thump the Lions ahead.
However the opening spell was not without its challenges. Cam Wilson was brought on early to replace the injured Jordan Thewlis.
Guiseley looked lively in the final third throughout the half. After 19 minutes Lebrun Mbeka slipped Rollins in again only for a defender to block. This came just seconds after Amir Berchil had forced Albion goalkeeper Ally Hughes into a fine close range save.
The Lions pressed further and Adam Lund delivered a deep cross that found Paul Iggulden at the back post, but his header drifted wide.
Kyle White then tested the keeper from a long‑range free‑kick. Minutes late Hughes again produced an excellent close‑range stop to deny Berchil.
Guiseley’s half-time lead was fully earned.
The second period brought a shift in momentum. Ian Richards made changes as Michael Roxburgh, Ollie Brown, Derren Boyle, A Trialist came on in place of Jack Hall, Iggulden, Charlie Staniland and Rollins.
Tadcaster enjoyed more possession and carved out their clearest chance when The Brewers’ Brown rounded Roxburgh, only for Lund to recover superbly and clear off the line.
As the game entered the final quarter Guiseley got back on top. Wilson created an opening for Boyle, whose low effort was saved, and Aaron Martin later rounded Hughes but saw a defender get back to block.
The decisive second goal arrived on 84 minutes. Lund’s trademark long throw caused difficulties for the home defence and reached Elliot Owen at the back post. He climbed well and guided a header into the top corner to seal the result.
White went close again late on, but once again the impressive Hughes in the Tadcaster goal stood firm.
