Gusieley came up against a Gainsborough side that had scored ten goals in their previous two games but the Lions acquitted themselves well in only conceding a single goal from Liam Waldock which cancelled out Mohammad Qasim’s opener just before the break to ensure that the points were shared writes John Clements.
Defences ruled the roost in the first half with few chances being created, Curtis Durose proving the main attacking threat for Trinity down the right flank.
For their own part the visitors were proving resilient in both defence and midfeld where the addition of Lebrun Mbeka and Barnsley loanee Joe Ackroyd was proving pivotal in disrupting the home sides flow.
The only chances of note saw Adam Haw’s snap shot go just wide while danger man Clayton Donaldson hit the upright from an acute angle before Qasim broke the deadlock latching on to a poor clearance to rifle the ball past Matt Hughes into the bottom corner with five minutes of the first half remaining.
Gainsborough came out fighting on the restart and ended a slick move when Waldock squared matters on 52 minutes and from then on it was end-to-end stuff with substitute Tom Cursons being the main threat to the Lions but Jordan Emery was given plenty of support to restrict the Trinity man to a series of crosses that were easily dealt with by the Lions defence.
Nicky Walker brought a good save from Yates and Qasim volleyed over from a good position then Yates made another good stop from Haw.
Switching to the left, Qasim was proving a real threat and he had a goalbound shot deflected wide and sub James Cadman nearly caught Yates out with an in-swinging corner that the keeper did well to punch clear from under the bar.
As time ran down Donald Chimalilo tried a speculative lob from twenty yards out that nearly had the desired effect but in the end a draw was probably the right result on the night.
