Premier League Charitable Fund 10th Anniversary

This week sees the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Premier League Charitable Fund, which produced the programme of work that led to the development of Premier League Primary Stars and their other intervention programmes, PL Kicks and PL Inspires.

Guiseley Community Foundation has been running the programme since 2018 and it has grown in strength to strength, delivering structured PE lessons, Teacher support, Targeted Interventions with support and funding from the National League Trust. To celebrate the anniversary the FA PE team are providing two ‘Big Marker’ webinar events prior to Christmas in both teacher and coach CPD with which the Foundation will be involving our partner schools and coaches.

Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Learning is connected to the real world of sport to enthuse pupils when tackling challenging PSHE topics such as resilience, diversity, self-esteem and fair-play.

Guiseley Community Foundation staff work with teachers to deliver fun, educational sessions in a range of subjects with our partner schools, Guiseley Primary, Queensway Primary and Yeadon Westfield Junior School and in the coming year aims to also be working with Rufford Park Primary School, whose Head Teacher is ex Guiseley player David Cooke.

During our 1-2-1 sessions at Yeadon Westfield Junior School, we are proud to have increased one particular young man’s participation in sport and physical activity. Since we have started working with this student, his confidence and well-being has really started to improve.

Before our sessions, he was reluctant to join in with playtime activities, but now he actively joins in with football games. We have successfully implemented the Premier League Primary Stars’ value of being connected- working well with others and in a team.

His participation and enjoyment of sport has massively increased, and this has consequently been able to address confidence and weight-related issues at the same time. We are striving to continue to inspire this young man, enhancing his interest in physical activity and sport, as well as improving his ambition to work hard and never give up!

Premier League Primary Stars has four values which we implement throughout our sessions these are:
• Be ambitious – work hard and never give up on their goals
• Be inspiring – set a great example to others
• Be connected –work well with others and in a team
• Be fair – treat people equally and think of others

Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

PL Primary Stars aims are to:
• Enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence of teachers to improve delivery of PE and school sport
• Increase children’s enjoyment, participation and skills in competitive and non-competitive sports and physical activity
• Increase children’s understanding of the personal skills and values needed to achieve their goals
• Enhance children’s interest, understanding and confidence in English and maths
