Guiseley continue their preparations for the Vanarama National League season when they host Barnsley on Tuesday at Nethermoor – kick-off taking place at 7pm.
The Lions suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Championship side Huddersfield Town on Saturday with Nahki Wells, Jacob Butterfield and Joe Lolley on target for the visitors. Nicky Boshell scored from the spot in the first half for Guiseley.
This will be the penultimate home pre-season match for Mark Bower’s side, with his former club Bradford City visiting Nethermoor on Tuesday, July 21st.
Looking ahead to the Barnsley game, Bower told Tom Feaheny: “It’s going to be another difficult test for us.
“I think we will start to give some of the players an increased workload because many only played 45 minutes against Huddersfield, so some will play a little longer on Tuesday.
“The lads have arrived from last season in really good shape but we are working towards the start of the season and this is another step towards that.”
Barnsley – who appointed former Lions captain Andy Holdsworth as academy coach in pre-season – started their string of friendlies with a 1-0 victory away at Stalybridge Celtic.
Last season, head coach Lee Johnson arrived at Oakwell midway through the season and guided the Tykes to 11th place in the League One table – seven points off a play-off place.
Central defender Marc Roberts – formerly of neighbours FC Halifax Town – is one of their close-season signings.
Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and is again free for those aged 12-18. Under-12s are also free with a paying adult.
