Sam joined the club on 27th January 2023 after featuring in the second half of a mid-season friendly win as a trialist a few days earlier.

Nicholson immediately joined Thackley on a dual-registration deal after playing in the centre of defence there a few days before and is a product of Barnsley’s academy.

He spent 11 years with the club before leaving at the end of the 2020/21 campaign and spending the past couple of years in America.

The 20 year-old has been described by Barnsley as being “fierce in the tackle and comfortable in possession.”

At just 15 he made is U23s debut for the club at Oakwell in a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Following the end of the 2022/23 campaign Sam left the club.
