Jonathan signed for The Lions on 10th August 2020 after leaving Boston United.

Despite approaches from other clubs Wafula was attracted to Guiseley because of his discussions with Joint Manager Russ O’Neill. Wafula said: “Russ was the only guy who convinced me. He was the only one who was straight forward and that made it easy for me to choose Guiseley.”

Born in Kenya Wafula moved to the UK aged 10 with the family settling in Derbyshire, firstly in Matlock and then in Alfreton. He had no real interest in football and it was only when he left school and went to college that he really started playing the game. He was noticed by Chesterfield scouts and was asked to trial in pre-season with The Spireites.

He signed a contract with Chesterfield for the 2012-13 season but then joined Worksop Town a year later before moving on to Shaw Lane.

Wafula started the 2017-18 season at Gainsborough Trinity but by February 2018 he had signed for Boston United, joining on the same day as former Guiseley player Jack Dyche, who was on loan from Scunthorpe United at that time.

He played 27 games in the remaining months of that season but injuries sustained in a car crash interrupted his season at Boston and he was restricted to 11 games.

Wafula said: “I can’t wait to get started, I was gutted when the start of the season was put back and I am looking forward to pulling on a Guiseley shirt.”
