John joined The Lions on 11th March 2022 following his release from Kidsgrove Athletic and he has plenty of experience in the Vanarama National League North.
Before arriving at Nethermoor the midfielder has played for Salford, Altrincham. Alfreton Town and Chester where he was signed for an undisclosed fee.
On the signing then Joint Manager Russ O’Neill said “JJ is a fabulous signing for the club, the calibre of player that I thought was out of reach for us here at Guiseley at this stage of his career if I’m honest. I know JJ inside out and I have kept in contact with him ever since selling him to Salford, he was electric for us as a youngster and really excelled.”
“He’s now 27 and with two league titles under his belt at Salford and then further titles at Altrincham and numerous transfer fees later he is coming to us with fantastic experience and at a great age. He knows the type of environment we try to create and rises to that challenge, I will be looking for him to be more than just a good young player now.”
“If we can get him to half the player we sold I’m sure he will be a big hit with the supporters and players alike.”
John made his Lions debut a day after his signature against Boston United.
John’s contract runs until the end of the 2022/23 season.
On 11th October 2022 it was announced that John Johnston had left the club to join Matlock Town for an undisclosed fee.
