Oxford late show frustrates Lions

Guiseley missed the chance to move into the play-off spots after a late collapse saw them held 3-3 by Oxford City on Saturday.

Fresh off the back of a thrilling 3-2 win at Stalybridge Celtic on Wednesday, the Lions started well and were ahead just before the half-hour mark courtesy of Wayne Brooksby.

The in-form winger made the most of a spilled save from Matthew Bulman to tap home the opener before Alex Johnson doubled the lead shortly after.

Gavin Rothery found the striker at the far post and he made no mistake in applying the finish.

However, Mark Bower’s men were unable to take that two-goal advantage into the half-time break as Kayden Jackson pulled one back – tapping in after Steven Drench had saved the initial penalty.

While the hosts grew into the game during the second half, Guiseley began to look leggy. But, when Danny Boshell found Adam Boyes eight minutes from time, the Gateshead loanee showed composure to finish and seemingly wrap up the points.

However, Darren Pond and Steve Basham scored one each in the final seven minutes to cap off a thoroughly frustrating day for the Lions.
