Guiseley’s weary troops came up against a side on top form last night who punished every mistake with some clinical finishing that left the Lions on the wrong end of a 6-0 pasting despite the fact that the host had been reduced to ten men after just ten minutes.
With Darryn Stamp and Warren Peyton restored to the .starting line up Danny Boshell and James Walshaw dropped to the bench ,and it was only when they came on in te second half that the team looked to have any shape and purpose but by then the damage was well and truly done.
It took Alfreton just 11 seconds to breach a fragile looking defence as Nathan Arnold lobbed Coates who was deputising for the injured Steven Drench before the was shown a straight red for a two footed tackle on Darryn Stamp. But far from hinder Town they scored a second shortly afterwards courtesy of , then went down to ten men after 10 minutes, but soon doubled their lead with Josh Law converting a penalty on 18 minutes following an infringement by Simon Ainge.
Guiseley’s first attempt on goal arrived just after the half hour with Joe O’Neill’s flick just wide and Stamp’s header flying over but the game was over as a contest with a quick brace from Liam Hearn who first robbed Ainge to score from an acute angle and then cut in from the right, Leave Dave Merris or dead and fire home.
Four nil, up and flying despite the one man disadvantage, if the Lions though the break would interrupt the home sides flow they were sadly mistaken, as Hearn completed his hat trick with a clinical finish and Nathan Jarman added the sixth in the 68th minute, when left completely unmarked to head home a cross from the left, leaving Coats rooted to the spot in the process..
Ainge by this time had been replaced by Jake McEneaney and the anonymous Danny Forrest had also been subbed by Boshell. Walshaw eventually came off the bench on 64 minutes and the visitors started showing some of the touches that made them all but unbeatable earlier in the season. But in the final analysis it was far too little and far, far too late.
