Russ O’Neill is grateful The Lions have a game on Tuesday night following Saturday’s draw at Lancaster City thanks to Will Thornton’s last minute header, kick-off at Nethermoor will be at 7:45pm.

“If I am being totally honest I think we live to fight another day and we’re lucky to be able to do that” were the first words out of Russ O’Neill’s mouth following the draw at Lancaster City on Saturday.
“My overwhelming thought is that we have got away with one there and we need to put things right on Tuesday. 100% I would rather be in it and have a replay than be out.”
Rowan Liburd struck his second goal in two games in the first half and the Joint First Team Manager was full of praise for the striker “I thought Rowan was outstanding today, especially in the first half, he was a proper number 9 for us.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday night O’Neill stressed the importance of the fixture “I think we need to match their endeavour more than we did and play our football. I liked the way they played at times with their aggression, we have been on the other foot with the game against Cambridge.”
“If we come with a proper mentality for Tuesday hopefully we will be alright but it will be another difficult game.”
Will Thornton spoke us through his goal on Saturday “It is a great ball in and I have just managed to sneak half a yard and get my head on it and thankfully it has gone in. Thankfully we have earnt a replay but we are all disappointed, we should have come here and got a result, it took us too long to get going.”
The academy graduate is hopeful of an improved performance in the replay “We fancy ourselves against anyone at home and we have got to put it right because today we all know that it is not good enough.”
Speaking about the competition as a whole Thornton said “Obviously it is massive, there are only three lads in our squad who have played at Wembley in their lives and it doesn’t come round often. We want to win every game we play in it is massive for us that we win on Tuesday and take it forward from there.”
Finally when asked about home advantage Will said “Oh it’s massive, I think we have learnt a lot from today so being at home and being able to get the ball down and play the way we want to play, I think that will help us massively on Tuesday night.”
