Paul Cox began his tenure as Guiseley manager with a goalless draw against mid-table Eastleigh at Nethermoor this afternoon and whilst the points were shared the performance was a lot more positive than the result would perhaps suggest.
In a game short on chances the visitors were first to threaten with Joe Green making a good save from Andrew Boyce.
At the other end Raul Correia fired in from the edge of the area only to see his fierce shot tipped on to the post and to safety by ex-Leeds keeper Graham Stack.
Lee Molyneux then shot straight at Stack from a free kick and Connor Brown was unfortunate to see his shot hit the side netting after he had won the ball in his own half and then set off towards goal.
Frank Mulhern replaced Correia early in the scond half and immediately got into the action when following up a clearance only to see his fierce shot palmed away by Stack who then had to be alert to Mulhern’s snap shot on the turn.
With both sides lacking the necessary midfield craft and guile to break down the opposing defence the best chance of the game fell to Jake Lawlor as the ball broke to him when after John Rooney’s effort had been blocked he fired over from twelve yards out with only Stack to beat.
