Following hot on the heels of the news that current Guiseley AFC Academy player Tabish Hussain is set to make his full international debut for Pakistan comes news that a graduate of the Academy’s first ever cohort, Jermaine Wilson, has returned to international action with his country writes Rachel O’Connor.
This week central midfielder Jermaine made his comeback with the Cayman Islands team, playing the full 90 minutes against Cuba two months after recovering from breaking a bone in his foot last November.
A member of Guiseley’s first ever cohort of Academy players 24 year-old Jermaine had been back in training for two months before playing in the friendly against Cuba
It was in September last year that Jermaine made his senior debut against Jamaica, who are ranked number one in the Caribbean.
That was also a memorable games as it was Cayman’s first senior men’s game in four years. Jamaica played players such at Marriappa, who plays for Watford; Hector, who is on loan from Chelsea to the Championship; and a lot of players currently playing in the MLS.
Since then Jermaine has played against the Dominican Republic, St Lucia and Cuba. He was in the starting line up for each of these games and played 90 minutes in them all.
The competition in which Cayman play is a new international competition, the Concacaf Nations League. They will play Cuba again in another friendly today, Friday.
Jermaine said:”If injury free I am hoping to play in the eight games we have coming up at the end of the year in the second phase of the Concacaf Nations League.”
When a member of the Guiseley Academy Jermaine lived in Chevin End, Menston, with the then Guiseley AFC Chairman Phil Rogerson and his family.
