Mist brace sees Academy exit Youth Cup

North Ferriby striker Nathan Mists’ first half brace knocked Guiseley out of the FA Youth Cup despite Cassius Jules pulling one back to set up a frantic last fifteen minutes.

The game started at a frantic pace with the home side on the front foot and Kelvin Owusu went close  to putting the Lions ahead on a couple of occasions.

However it was the visitors who took the lead on 22 minutes when Mist ran down the left channel before shooting past keeper Luke Wilson for the opener.

Jules put in a telling cross which Owusu headed the wrong side of the post before the Lions fell further behind when Mist spotted Wilson off his line and lobbed the ball over him.

Cameron Gray then wasted an opportunity to pull one back from another Jules cross but his header was off target.

With Ferriby seemingly happy to sit on their two goal advantage and hit the home side on the break it took a double substitution with fifteen minutes remaining to give the Lions some hope with Harry Bissett and Josh McKeirnon replacing Ryan Hargreaves and Owusu.

McKeirnon had an immediate impact as he lifted the ball over the back four where Jules beat James Wilkinson to the ball and slotted home but despite a late flurry from the home side, it was the visitors who maintained their lead and now host Morecambe in the first round proper.
