Meet Paul Clayton

Last up was our interview with the new Assistant Manager Paul Clayton on his fresh challenge and stepping away from the playing side of football.

The former Alfreton, Harrogate Town and Shaw Lane striker is looking forward to a different perspective on the sport.

“It is a different challenge but is still football, I can’t wait to get started in the different side of the game.”

“I have worked under Russ at Alfreton and I got a taste for it there and I just want to give it my best shot here, I am relishing the opportunity.”

Clayton sees the switch back to a part time status as a good move for the club “Going part time can be a massive positive, there is a lot of experience in our management team, it is a massive thing to go and help these two.”

Paul is grateful of the role he has been given and is already counting down the days until the start of the season “To come into a club such as Guiseley it is a big opportunity for me, I will grasp it with both hands.”

“I know it is going to be hard work but you don’t get anything without hard work.”

Speaking of the management team’s vast knowledge of the non league circuit he said “I have seen players and you need the knowledge of non league, you need to know what it takes and what players to bring in to give that mentality to the team.”

“With Marcus, Russ and me we will do our best to bring in players with a strong mentality.”

Finally he ended with a message to the Lions faithful “We need to stabilise the club and consolidate, in everybody’s eyes down the years you have looked at Guiseley and seen play offs or pushing promotion.”

“We have got to consolidate, strip it right back and install a mentality about the place and get it buzzing again.”

“My message to the Guiseley fans is we want it loud, backing us and behind us. It is going to be a tough season but we are going to work really hard to get it back to where it needs to be. With the brand of football we are going to bring trust me you will love it.”
