We are delighted to announce the signing of Cam Mason for an undisclosed fee from Southport after a successful loan move.
Goalkeeper Cameron Mason has seen his loan deal at Guiseley AFC turn into a permanent one with the 26 year-old signing a contract until the end of the 2023-24 season, writes Rachel O’Connor.
Mason joined Guiseley on loan from Southport a month ago after failing to regain his first team spot with the Sandgrounders following injury.
His loan has coincided with an upturn in Guiseley’s fortunes in the Pitching In League Premier Division. This had seen him keep three clean sheets in five games, four of which were wins.
The highly rated ‘keeper has vindicated manager Paul Phillips’ faith in him.
Mason said: “Paul was after me for some time before I joined him at Guiseley. It is good to feel wanted by someone who has faith in your ability. I am pleased for Paul that he and his management team are now getting a good squad together.
“I am excited about the way the squad is shaping up with a good mix of youth and experience. It is good to know that I am wanted and what is expected of me.”
He added: “I am confident that the club is going in the right direction. I am very grateful to the club for giving me a chance and I hope to repay them by helping to get them back into National League North.
“There is some confidence now in the way we are playing and that is having an impact on the club. The club has been very good to me since I came here and we have a very good dressing room. Results have shown that and I am very happy for Paul that things are coming together. It takes time to build a new squad but I feel we have a good balance.”
Mason was in the Academy at Oldham Athletic and also served an apprenticeship at Chesterfield. After being released by the Spireites he spent six months in Australia, where he played semi-professional football.
Mason then had seven years at Curzon Ashton before leaving last summer for Southport FC. Whilst at Curzon Ashton he was selected for the England C squad for a non-league international against Wales only for the game to be called off because of Covid-19.
This transfer is subject to subject to FA and NPL approval.
