Torquay United visit Nethermoor in the Vanarama National League on Saturday afternoon as Adam Lockwood hopes his side feel refreshed after a short break.

The Gulls come in to the fixture without a win since early October when they toppled Dagenham and Redbridge at Plainmoor.

The Lions’ record in recent weeks is similar to Saturday’s opponents with defeats at Aldershot and Forest Green with a draw at home to Gateshead in between.

Both sides were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth qualifying round meaning an enforced break in fixtures.

Our last fixture was against Albion Sports on the 1st November in the West Riding County Cup.

Lockwood played the full 90 minutes and said after the game “I thought it was important, just in case, to keep myself fit. I felt ok and it was a bit of a test in the cold conditions.”

Adam thinks the break has come at the wrong time for some of his troops “We have obviously got knocks, it’s come at a bad time for suspensions with a big gap.”

However he does feel that it has come at the right time for some of his players “It gives lads the opportunity who have played a long time to have a bit of a break.”

“They’ve done really well for me and I’d like to thank everyone who has gone a little bit above and beyond for the club. Stepping straight in probably when they weren’t ready.”

“That’s a positive and to me it shows you what characters we’ve got in the squad.”

Both Jake Lawlor and Simon Walton will sit Saturday’s game out through suspension.

Walton captained the side in the West Riding County Cup then signed a new contract the day after and said “I have enjoyed it, it has been tough at times.”

“I don’t think we have got the results we have deserved.”

“There’s still a long way to go, I’ve been impressed with what Locky has done.”

“From what I’ve seen we’ve got more than enough to get out of the position we are in.”

Connor Brown will come back into contention following the end of his suspension and new signing Joel Logan will be in the squad.
