Adam Lockwood and Danny Lowe were delighted with the first win of the season on Tuesday night and are looking for consistency as Southport visit Nethermoor on Saturday.
The Sandgrounders come into the fixture having lost their last two including Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat at Solihull Moors when they had to play in the oppositions shirts, something that is familiar to Guiseley fans who travelled to Damson Park in 2015.
The Lions however kick-started the season with a 6-1 win on Tuesday night over York City, this reduced the gap between ourselves and Southport to just three points.
Speaking after the match Lockwood said “I am delighted but in my eyes it is where we should be.”
“The whole night sums the way the season has been so far, with the floodlights and then the result.”
“I must admit it was one of the most stressful times in my whole career, it was so frustrating but I’d like to thank everyone who got them going again.”
When asked about the new signings, Jake Cassidy and Jermaine Hylton, Lockwood said “When the lads come back from injury we’re going to have a strong squad which breeds competition.”
“We’re still trying to improve the squad if we can do.”
Adam thought the win had been coming for a while having noticed a shift in the level of performances recently “The last couple of weeks have been great, we’ve had a couple of setbacks but when you consider where we’ve come from.”
“I’ve said from day one the attitude and application of the lads has been first class, I can only thank them for that.”
Danny Lowe was a relieved man when the floodlights were switched back on “It was typical of our season, things were going well and then the floodlights go off.”
“We deserved the win, it was a good performance, everyone to a man put in a performance.”
“It’s disappointing when we are where we are when we know we can produce performances like that.”
“We needed the win, we kept saying week after week it would come.”
“We can’t go into Southport and step back, we’ve set that standard now so we need to find some consistency.”
The captain is also delighted to be back in action following a spell out injured at the start of the season “It’s nice to be back on the pitch finally, it was a long time out.”
