Following a nondescript first half against Clitheroe, the introduction of Oli Johnson and Nicky Boshell helped pay dividends almost immediately as Adam Boyes netted the winner on 46 minutes.

Boshell produced a rasping shot but keeper Matthew Green was equal to it as he tipped it over the bar. Alex Johnson then made a welcome return late on and put a shot just over as the Lions delivered a more assured second-half performance despite the usual flurry of changes.

And so it’s on to Throstle Nest on Saturday to complete the pre-season programme against Farsley AFC before the Conference North kicks off at Leamington on Saturday, August 9th.
