The Lions kept top spot on goals scored ahead of newcomers Brackley thanks to second-half goals from Wayne Brooksby and Gavin Rothery after absorbing all that the home side could throw at them in the first period with Steve Drench the far busier of the two keepers.
Brooksby took advantage of a break down the left before cutting inside and firing low into the corner on 62 minutes and was then replaced by James Walshaw. Nicky Boshell, Danny Ellis and Walshaw all tried their luck to no avail before the visitors were awarded a penalty and although the home custodian saved Rothery’s spot kick the midfielder followed up to net the loose ball.
Walshaw had a good opportunity to increase the Lions’ lead but mistimed his header and Drench pulled off a good stop at the other end to preserve the clean sheet.
