Lions & Tykes share spoils in entertaining draw

Guiseley played out an entertaining six goal thriller at Nethermoor this evening to share the spoils with Championship side Barnsley in a game that ended all square at three goals apiece.

As with Saturday’s game against Leeds it was the visitors who took the lead when Lloyd Isgrove’s shot took a wicked deflection and looped over Joe Green in the Guiseley goal.

However, the home side were soon back on level terms when a corner was headed out to a Trialist and his shot whistled through a posse of players and took a slight deflection to deceive Jack Walton on 33 minutes.

The Lions then took the lead for the first time when a Barnsley defender was caught in possession and the Guiseley number 10 evaded the keeper and laid it on for number 11 to apply the finishing touch on 41 minutes.

The restart saw the home side make wholesale changes and Jonny Maxted did well to deny Nick Townsend before Zeki Fryers rifled a left foot shot into the top corner to square matters once again just before the hour.

New striker Reece Thompson opened his Nethermoor account with a deft backheel after number 22’s header had come back off the angle to restore the Lions advantage.

John Rooney then hit the bar with a curling free kick, but it was the Tykes who completed the goal fest when a peach of a shot from the edge of the area by George Moncur found the far corner.
