After last week’s win over Championship side Huddersfield, it was back to the bread and butter at Throstle Nest where two second-half goals from Farsley cancelled out Gavin Rothery’s 65th-minute equaliser from the spot.
For the first twenty minutes, Guiseley showed their class with some slick passing but they couldn’t find the killer pass to convert their superiority into goals. When they did get through, the offside trap was invariably sprung and even though the Lions had the ball in the net twice it was all to no avail. The only change was Jacob Giles replacing Steve Drench on the half-hour.
The second half started with the usual flurry of substitutes, and Farsley went ahead before Rothery looped his spot kick past a committed Tom Guildford. Slack marking five minutes later gifted Chris Walton a free header at the far post from a left-wing corner, and that was it. Not that the Lions’ first defeat of the season will count for much; it’s the results from 18 August onwards that matter.
