Lions still searching for their first win

For the second week in succession the Lions had to settle for a point at home to fellow strugglers Woking as despite taking the lead through Adam Boyes just after the break they then failed to press home their advantage and eventually succumbed to Dennon Lewis’s deflected shot with eight minutes left on the clock.

Interim manager Adam Lockwood included new loan signing Reece Webb Foster in the starting eleven while former Leeds United midfielder Simon Walton started his Nethermoor career on the bench.

The home side nearly went behind early on when Jonathan Maxted’s poor clearance went straight to Keiran Murtagh who’s snap shot whistled just the wrongs ide of the post with Maxted scrambling to get across his goal.

The home custodian was again in action shortly after to save from Delan Sam-Yorke before Chigozie Ugwu put a well taken header just over the bar.

As the Lions finally asserted themselves Boyes looping header bounced off the top of the bar with Woking keeper Michael Poke beaten.

Lewis fired another warning shot over the bar for the visitors and was then thankful to see his goalkeeper tip a goal bound shot from Jordan Preston around the post.

Webb-Foster also tried his luck but shot straight at Poke who then pulled off another good stop from Javan Vidal’s deflected effort.

But Poke was finally beaten two minutes into the second half when Nicky Clee squared a ball to Boyes on the edge of the area for the striker to unleash a superb rising shot to open double his gol tally for the season.

With the visitors now on the back foot Preston had another shot saved and despite a flurry of corners the home side were unable to add to their tally.

Murtagh wasted a good chance midway through the half as his header sailed over the target but when the same player was given too much room down the right flank his cross was converted by found Lewis.

The home side then had Rob Atkinson to thank in the dying seconds as he produced two match saving blocks on the goaline to deny the visitors all three points.
