Lions Start Buildbase FA Trophy Campaign With FREE Livestream For Chorley Clash

The Lions are back at Nethermoor on Tuesday night for the visit of Chorley in the Buildbase FA Trophy second round clash which kick-off at 7:45pm with all the action being shown live for FREE on YouTube.

As fans are still not able to attend we want to make our matches as accessible as we can, we would encourage anyone to “pay what it’s worth” via our Crowdfunder page here to help cover our matchday costs.

We are still incurring matchday running costs of around £800 per home game and whilst we’re still awaiting the details of the government’s financial package, we would ideally like to see these covered to keep the free livestreams running. Any funds raised in excess of this figure will be put towards purchasing upgraded equipment for our excellent Guiseley Radio team, who voluntarily provide match commentary at all games home and away.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to hear about our latest video uploads.

Watch live for FREE from 7:30pm here.

It is the second time in a week The Lions will have faced Chorley after a defeat in the league on Tuesday night at their Victory Park ground with The Magpies coming out on top thanks to Harry Cardwell’s stunning long range strike midway through the first half.

The Lions’ recent record in the Buildbase FA Trophy has not been anything to shout about with a defeat in our first game in the competition in the past three seasons. Defeats to AFC Telford United, Lancaster City and Gateshead saw our run in the competition cut short with our last Buildbase FA Trophy victory coming at Chorley’s Victory Park in December 2016 thanks to a Michael Rankine header.

Marcus Bignot and Russ O’Neill saw a good reaction from their side after the defeat at Chorley on Tuesday night with a 4-2 win over Southport on Saturday with four different Lions on the scoresheet.

Jon Wafula, Josh Parsons, Kaine Felix and Lebrun Mbeka were all on target in an entertaining game as we recovered from back to back defeats to win for the first time in the league at Nethermoor since the opening night of the season.

Chorley meanwhile endured a difficult start to the season with five losses and a draw in their first six games before being unbeaten in their next five in the Vanarama National League North.

They have enjoyed an excellent run in the Emirates FA Cup knocking out Gateshead, York City, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United to reach the third round of the competition with Wayne Rooney’s Derby County set to travel to Victory Park on 9th January.

Former Lion Andy Halls is named in their squad but did miss the fixture last week through injury and he didn’t feature in their 1-1 draw at Alfreton Town on Saturday.

Following Saturday’s win over Southport Russ O’Neill said “It was a really pleasing performance and victory, we scored four goals in a game we went behind in and showed great character to get back in, once we got level I thought there was only one team who was going to win it, thankfully we got the goals that I thought we deserved and it was a good win in the end.”

Russ was asked about the changes to the side and the new signings because of the current injury list “We have had an horrendous time with injuries, we have lost Prince, Andy, we have lost a lot of youngsters who have got into the team and done really well, so we had to make adjustments and in all honesty we tried to bring another one in just to reinforce us. I thought as a full team performance today we were excellent from back to front, we just need to keep building slowly but surely and keep trying to improve these performances and results.”

“You can look at it in all different ways, you can say we gelled because we got a result, there are games where we have played better and not got a result.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday night’s game the Joint Manager said “Chorley are in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup and that is no fluke, I have watched both games that they have beaten higher league teams and they were no flukes in those games, we were under no illusions what they were going to bring to the game last week. For 45 minutes last week they looked like a lot better team than we did, when we turned it round at half-time, if we carry that into Tuesday night and bring that together we will give them a better game.”
