Guiseley Ladies hosted Hull City Ladies F.C yesterday, looking to turn a poor turn of form and in search of their first home win of the season.
With Guiseley making new signings over the past few weeks, the girls welcomed the new signings of Leanne Warren & Rachel Landricombe to the squad while other new signings Orla & Collette Haslam ( previously of Leeds City Vixens ) & Jamie Lea Smith ( previously of Rothwell) still awaiting clearance from the league.
Since starting their league campaign with a 1-4 away with over newcomers Lepton Highlanders the team have been defeated by Chester Le Street at home 4-2, which was followed by a 6-1 loss to Peterlee last Sunday. The ladies went out with fighting spirit and looking to add to our points tally!
The game started off brightly with Abi Barker settling into her favoured right back position with some great tackles from the off, Cropp very much making that left back spot her own linking up well with new left winger Leanne ‘Wozza’ Warren making her first league appearance for the club. With the defence missing usual centre back Laura Danskin, utility player Alarna Fuller filled in quickly making Hull aware she wasn’t going to be a push over. With Amy Parker taking control of the right wing and linking up well with Hopton & Jesson in midfield, Guiseley started off well passing the ball about showing the kind of football they intend to show.
Guiseley took the lead with a brace by current top scorer Caroline Hulme, some great lead up down the right wing finished off by a great ball through by Rachel White. Hulme calmly drawing the keeper out to smash home!
Hull continued to press with some good strikes on goal, however Fuller & captain Matthews were working well together to keep Hull at bay!
HT 1-0 to Guiseley.
Both teams came out for the second half fighting, Hull are always a strong side and have experienced players who are able to quickly turn on the counter attack. With both teams pushing on Hull pushed on down the right wing, they cleverly switched play across goal for their striker to cleanly put the ball away.
Guiseley quickly stepped up a gear and upped the tempo of their game, with midfielders Hopton & Jesson solid in the middle limiting Hull’s breaks. Hopton capitalising on some great high possession by Guiseley, with a solid cross from left winger Wozza, with the Hull keeper pulling off a good save only for Hopton to smash home a second goal for Guiseley to make it 2-1.
With Guiseley fired up and knowing they had an opportunity to put the game to bed, Parker made way for Sally Jones on the right wing. With Guiseley looking to push for a 3rd goal, Hopton cleverly switching the ball across for Jones to simply square to Hulme, which saw a repeat of the first goal with Hulme calmly slotting in her 9th goal of the season.

With Guiseley firmly ahead Hull were again pressing for another goal, with some heated play in the Guiseley area Hull had two clear chances to level the scoring with goalkeeper Boswell making two quick-fire saves to keep Guiseley in the game.
Guiseley then made a second change with Jesson making way for new signing Rachel Landricombe in central midfield gaining important match time minutes and her debut. Great link up play by Cropp & Wozza saw Wozza make a fantastic run down the left wing to cross in a fantastic ball to Jones to shoot with her third touch of the game across goal making it 4-1.
With new players waiting in the wings for league confirmation, the team continue to field players out of position with Parker, Hopton, Cropp & Fuller again with fantastic performances and are a credit to the team performance

Manager Liam Kelly said “Good performance, good work ethic, longer periods of high quality play and starting to now play with intelligence. After the last two weeks it was important to bounce back today and whereas before we may have buckled after conceding, today we finished the game off. We played as a team, worked to our strengths and kept to our principles of plat. It’s important for us to raise the bar now next week and continue to develop”
