Lions Slip Towards The Relegation Zone

Guiseley edged nearer to the relegation zone as they went down to a tame three nil defeat to league leaders Chorley at Victory Park this afternoon.

Two of the goals should have been prevented but the fact that the visitors only went close on one occasion and goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst was the Lions star performer tells you all you need to know about the game itself.

The home side took the lead after ten minutes when former Lions striker Josh Wilson got the faintest of touches to beat Marcus Dewhurst at his near post.

The closest the visitors came to grabbing an equaliser was when Curtis Morrison delivered a cross from the left which Kayode Odejayi just failed to convert at the far post. As it turned out this was the only time the visitors troubled the league leaders.

One nil down at half time the game was put beyond the Lions three minutes into the second half when Adam Blakeman drifted infield and as the Guiseley defence backed off, he unleashed a shot beyond Dewhurst to double Chorley’s advantage.

Elliot Newby then wrapped things up on 61 minutes as he lashed a shot past Dewhurst from eighteen yards.

The defeat sees Guiseley slip one place to eighteenth and Tuesdays rearranged home game against Hereford now assumes the status of a relegation six pointer as the Bulls sit immediately below the Lions and just three points behind them.
